Step 2 - Intradepartmental review: Each day a team of experts from every subspecialty holds an intradepartmental review at a multi-headed microscope to examine all unusual, suspicious, or malignant cases. These sub-specialty conferences ensure multiple pathology experts review all significant or challenging diagnoses.
Step 3 - The latest technology: Cases requiring further study may receive special histochemical stains that contribute to a definitive diagnosis. DIANON offers immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, and virology testing to help reach and confirm final diagnoses.
Step 4 - Expert consultants: DIANON contracts with leading university-based expert pathologists in the areas of uropathology, gastrointestinal pathology, and dermatopathology for those few cases in which a diagnosis remains questionable after the first three quality steps.
